Polo is, of course, a sport that falls under the purview of Horse & Hound magazine and it has afforded it extensive coverage over the years.
Back in January 1994, its front cover was given over to the coming retirement from league polo of HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales. As the sport’s best known exponent and one of its great evangelists, Horse & Hound understandably ran a feature on his career and bemoaned his departure from the game beyond appearances in charity and exhibition matches.
‘Can polo exist in this country without Prince Charles?’ was one of the questions asked at the time, but the sport seems to be doing quite nicely still.
