Golf Monthly had a pretty arresting cover shot for the September 1973 issue, three golfers lined up and ready to tee off. Tony Jacklin looked to be in Position A, but the chances of Bert Yancey and Tom Weiskopf surviving without having some substantial dental bills to pay looked slim.
Thankfully, none of them were actually going to hit the pill, but were merely posing for an instructional photo so that readers could compare their swings. That was followed up by a feature on Arnold Palmer’s downswing within the magazine, so that students of the game had plenty to work on during the long, winter months ahead.
There was also a feature on the upcoming Ryder Cup between the United States and Great Britain & Ireland, as the match was then constituted. Headed ‘Fifteen Years Without A Win’, Golf Monthly looked for signs that this time, the United States might be beaten at Muirfield. As it turned out, they weren’t, the US winning 19-13.
