September 2005 saw TV Times celebrating its 50th anniversary and to celebrate, the cover was given over to Ant & Dec, who were probably there right at the start. It feels like it, anyway.
It was, of course, the 50th anniversary of ITV too and to celebrate, the Geordies were set to host a Gameshow Marathon, paying homage to the format that has long been the mainstay of the TV schedules. ‘The Price Is Right, ‘Bullseye”, ‘Play Your Cards Right’ and ‘Sale of the Century’ were all going to get the Ant & Dec treatment.
Elsewhere, former local news reporter Chris Tarrant admitted that, “I was never going to be Jeremy Paxman”, while there was also a pull-out of TV Times’ ‘50 Greatest Images’, the highlight of the magazine.
