June 2009 and Golf Monthly was asking golf’s ‘hottest prospect’, one Rory McIlroy, how to ensure that we could all approach the putting surface with confidence.
Going through five practice drills, the first was to hit a series of putts with one leg in the air. “This acts to destabilise you and any unnecessary movements will throw you and your stroke completely off balance.”
McIlroy also suggested hitting practice putts with your eyes shut. “You’ll become acutely aware of how your arms and body are working during the stroke.”
All five of McIlroy’s invaluable tips for getting around the greens can be found here. It might just win you a match next time you’re on the course.
