Nick Faldo parred his way to the Open Championship, Ian Woosnam collected the World Matchplay trophy and led Wales to a World Cup win, Sandy Lyle became the first non-American to win the US Tournament Players’ Championship, Laura Davies carried off the US Open and the European team finally won the Ryder Cup on American soil.
