Lifting the gloom is very much the role of a magazine’s first issue of a new year.
As the decorations come down and the long slog towards Easter starts, Horse & Hound knew its job with the opening issue of 1960, capturing this glorious image of horsemanship on its front cover.
Taken from the Bertram Mills Circus at London’s Olympia, this shot caught The Ten Carolis in action, although it appeared that a couple of them had disappeared for a quick ciggie round the back of the tent. You can count them out and count them back in again here.
