In a special festive double issue, star columnist Willie Miller, of Scotland and Aberdeen, looked forward to his side taking on Hamburg in the UEFA Super Cup second leg at Pittodrie after a 0-0 draw in the first game in West Germany. The Dons won and were named European Team of the Year for 1983.

 

Elsewhere, Trevor Francis must have got right up the noses of his England teammates by revealing that as he was now playing for Sampdoria in Italy, he was getting a two-week break over the holiday period. “I’m coming home to England with Helen and my son Matthew to spend Christmas with my family in Manchester.”
