We’re rolling the clock back to February 1925 with this edition of Golf Monthly which would give any PR professional the screaming abdabs in 2025.

There on the cover – right next to an ad for an alcoholic beverage that is certainly not on his sponsorship roster – is a picture of Willie Hunter, the British amateur champion from 1921, just turning pro.

But what do we see clamped between Hunter’s lips? It can’t be. It is! He’s only working his way through a gasper, contrary to every health and safety regulation know to the 21st century spin doctor, a crime which would have him plastered all over TikTok these days and immediately disowned by all the nutrition companies with their logo on his polo shirt.

And if you find that all too much, just wait until you come across Leo Munro’s article on golfing attire in the jazz age. You’ll need your glasses and a stiff portion of that brew from the cover. You have been warned, but you can find it all here.
