It’s May 1962, in a UK that is still, for the most part, ignorant of the existence of The Beatles, currently engaged in Hamburg. And so it is that the return of Frank Sinatra is the biggest musical story in the country.

As TV Times breathlessly reports, “Frank Sinatra makes his first concert appearance in Britain for nearly 10 years next Friday – at the Royal Festival Hall in London. ITV cameras will be there to record the event and the following day, Saturday, at 8.25pm, you can see ‘This Is Sinatra!’ exclusively on ITV.”

This was accompanied by a profile of Ol’ Blue Eyes, and quotes from an eclectic list of seven celebrities who seem to have bene chosen solely for their first names, which are an acrostic of Sinatra – Sophia Loren, Ingemar Johansson, Nelson Riddle, Anthony Newley, Tony Curtis, Rita Hayworth, (And) Bing Crosby, the last of which is definitely cheating.
