With six Majors already to his name, in October 1963, Arnold Palmer was widely regarded as the greatest golfer in the world.
Little wonder then that his game regular came under the Golf Monthly microscope and for the editor, it came as some surprise to discover that Arnie was putting according to dictums laid down by P.A. Vaile in his 1932 book, ‘The Short Game’.
“Palmer, over the years, has experimented with different putting methods to find the one that suited him best. There is no doubt that he is one of the finest putters in the world today, and it is interesting to observe that he appears to have, by his own experiments, arrived at an address position which was once recommended by Vaile.”
You can see how there is nothing new under the sun here.
