Northampton Saints are enjoying a magnificent season, currently sitting five points clear at the head of the Gallagher Premiership table after 15 of their 18 fixtures, and all set to take their place in the end of season play-offs.
There’s also the little matter of the Investec Champions Cup semi-final coming up on Star Wars day, May the fourth, when they will travel across the Irish Sea to take on Leinster for a place in the final against Toulouse or Harlequins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Northampton Saints have won the European title just once before, and Rugby World commemorated the 9-8 win over Leinster’s great Irish rivals, Munster, in the Twickenham final of May 2000, with a picture spread in the August 2000 issue.
Back then, it was a first European trophy for Saints, and you can enjoy more of the photography from that day here.
