In April 2001, FourFourTwo set itself the considerable task of selecting the ten greatest sides of all time, be they club or country. Given that the current Euros certainly aren’t producing a team to rank with any of the ones that were picked, it’s an article worth revisiting.
The cover illustration – one of the greatest football photographs of all time – gives away the number one, but beyond that, it’s a nicely eclectic mix that doesn’t give in to today’s obsession with the past five minutes and nothing earlier.
Naturally it is very Anglocentric and restricted to the post-war TV era, but there are some good talking points raised and plenty to argue about. We’ll keep you in the dark as to the other nine selections, but it is certainly worth delving into here.
