For caravan enthusiasts in search of literary inspiration when looking for a fresh destination, the January 2003 issue of the Caravan Club Magazine used the little grey cells to point the way to Devon.
Devon was the source of much inspiration for Agatha Christie, the leading light among British mystery writers throughout the 20th century. Born in Torquay, Christie returned to Devon once her books had made her wealthy, buying the Greenway estate, part of which is now open to the public.
Some of the photos that accompany the article, not least those of the Art-Deco Burgh Island Hotel are hugely evocative of the time of peak Poirot. If you want to find a caravan site from which to explore it – and other Devonian highlights – you will find all the clues here.
