Back in February 1995, Glenn Hoddle was making his way in the world as a manager after a playing career that saw him lauded as a genius by some and an unaffordable luxury by others.

Had we but known it, the England job was just around the corner, following Terry Venables after Euro ’96, and the FourFourTwo interview that he subjected himself to suggested that there might be trouble ahead. Quizzed on his quotes that said he was a born-again Christian, Hoddle said, “These people don’t understand what I said. They are looking for stories and angles that just aren’t there…I never said I was a born-again Christian. I don’t believe the things born-again Christians believe. I’ve got a very individual relationship with God. I believe there is a life after. I’ve never said anything about religion.”

Covering his playing philosophy as well as his spiritual one, recalling days at Spurs and looking ahead to Chelsea’s future, it is a fascinating – and lengthy – interview, and you can find it here.
