June 1994 saw the end of another National Hunt season, Horse & Hound commending Richard Dunwoody on his success as champion jockey and winning the Grand National.
But an editorial in the magazine was exercised by talk of an introduction of summer racing over the jumps, making it a year round sport, a prospect brought into sharp focus by the arrival of the National Lottery which looked likely to reduce the money taken from betting on the horses.
But as H&H opined here, “National Hunt racing is such a good sport…but should not all good things come to an end, even if only for two months?”
