Given the world has gone digital, including games and toys, it’s hard to believe that there was once a time when companies could afford to take out a full page ad for a model railway train in TV Times, one of the biggest selling magazines in the country. And it wasn’t even Christmas.

 

But such was the case in August 1979 when Hornby Railways introduced their steam driven replica of Stephenson’s Rocket, packed with authentic features and a few safety modifications of their own. Those truly were the golden days of advertising.

 

Incidentally, you should have bought one. They’re going for between £320 and £750 on eBay now…
