It has long been the approach of the automotive industry to associate themselves with winning racing cars and teams, and one of the hardy perennials on that front is Castrol GTX.
For a change – and with this advert that was more applicable to the average motorist – in July 1971 they went for rally drivers rather than the kings of F1, with most of the biggest names in the domestic sport clustered around a car suitably kitted out in the Castrol livery.
More than 50 years on, thanks to ads like these, if some of us of a certain age are pressed to name a motor oil, Castrol GTX is still the one that comes to mind.
